Notes for week 8

This week is designed to support your origin tracing work for your research agenda. All ideas, practices, organisations, ways of doing things had a beginning point in time, that is, before that they did not exist. For practices in particular, they can often be maintained and sustained over decades and centuries during which time the circumstances in which they began tend to be forgotten. A good many of the practices associated with formal education fall into this category.

You will have two origin stories to chase,

  • that associated with the context or phenomenon you are studying, and
  • that associated with the research approach you plan to deploy.

On the tracing origins page you'll find a short reading and a book reference that both illustrate the kind of sleuthing and tracing that you will find useful.

There will be a lot of leads to follow. You'll need to keep track of things in your notebooks.
