Mapping can take many forms. But with the access the digital now gives to many of the elements you need to map a field, it is a good deal easier.
This is a mapping of a contemporary theory space that is important across a range of fields.
Perhaps the simplest approach is to offer examples of what others have done. None are the kind of mapping we are after in this course but some get close, e.g.
- Kuzhabekova A., Hendel, D. D., & Chapman, D. W. (2015). Mapping global research on international higher education. Research in Higher Education, 56(8), 861-882. doi: 10.1007/s11162-015-9371-1
Other kinds of mapping pay attention to the content of the field, like Norton's report does in his mapping of Australian Higher Education. Then there are mappings that are closer to reviews of the literature, e.g. Dicheva, D., Dichev, C., Agre, G., & Angelova, G. (2015). Gamification in education: a systematic mapping study. Educational Technology & Society, 18(3), 1-14.
