And, for a bit of fun, given the odd moments when hoaxing in the academy became a device for critiquing a whole field of scholarship, Communications from Elsewhere is worth a look. Perhaps the most famous instance of hoaxing was the hoax perpetrated by Alan Sokal. There are more recent instances, for instance the recent work in the so-called field of grievance studies. Hoaxing has not been limited to poking fun at some of the social sciences, computer science has also been targeted.
